1. Snow Town in Ekkamai

Description: If Florence city met winter and served Japanese food, you would have the makings of Snow Town.  This little theme park is town square cut-out of restaurants around a courtyard covered in snow and tobogganing hills to slosh about in your little skis and snow boots.

Vibe: Although Snow Town is a great place for kids, the sushi and ramen restaurants in town also serve beer!

Added-Value: Snow Town features themed shows & events for children, skiing lessons and a big ol’ snow-shooting machine.

  • How to get there:  Take the skytrain to the Ekkamai platform which walks into the Gateway Mall.  As you ascend the escalators five floors, the higher you go, the cooler it gets.

2. The Rink at Central World

Description:  Like an indoor version of the Rockefeller skating rink in NY Times Square, the Rink at Central World is sparklingly lit down the halls of commercialism to the muzak of timeless mall tunes.

Vibe:  Year round and commercially cheery, the Rink at Central World is suitable for all ages.  This intimate ice rink is an impressionable stopover that’s great for holding hands on a date or just spending quality time with your family.

Added-Value:  It’s easy to plan what’s next on the day’s agenda.  Roll with one of Central World’s many impulses be it shopping, dining or catching a show.

  • How to get there:  Get off at the Siam skytrain station and take the skywalk to Central World.  The Rink is on the same level as the skywalk so its just straight ahead once inside the mall.

3. The Rink at Central Plaza Rama 9

Description:  The Rink at Central Plaza Rama 9 is the real deal ice skating experience on an official-size hockey rink.  The rink is home ice to the Bangkok Ice Hockey League, elite training camps and ice skating championships.  This large facility also fits raised bleachers and a restaurant along the rink’s boards.

Vibe:  Excitement from skates scrapping the ice, hockey pucks clapping off the boards, and echoing laughter as you step onto the marked-out rink stomach filled with butterflies.

Added-Value:  The community and accolades built around the hockey and ice skating community on full display.  And definitely the lounge couches and liquor wall in the restaurant that serves best chilled!

  • How to get there:  Take the MRT subway to the Rama 9 station which provides direct underground access into Central Plaza.

4. Sub-Zero Ice Skate Club in Ekkamai

Description:  What starts off feeling like a planetarium, is actually the Sub-Zero Ice Skate Club with two encapsulated ice rinks inside – one for small pick-up hockey games; the other for parties.  But what turns this into a jamming ‘skate club’ are the vintage round booth tables, a DJ, a glowing light show, and fried finger foods including a McDonalds hotline!

Vibe:  A space jam aboard a neon-cladded ice rink and a sound system that’s a blast for you and your group of friends.  Just ask for the ‘Cosmic Lights’ anytime after 5 p.m.

Added-Value:  Memberships with Sub-Zero Ice Skate Club share benefits with the group’s other chains of bowling and karaoke venues where you can also ‘get jiggy with it’.

  • How to get there:  The Ekkamai skytrain bridge will take you opposite the Gateway Mall to Major Sukhumvit Cineplex.  Go through a series of corridors past the fitness center and board the elevator to the 9th floor.

5. Ice Planet at Siam Discovery

Description:  Siam Discovery is currently under renovations so we’ll see what this novelty ice rink is like when the mall re-opens early 2016.

Description:  The Sub Zero Ice Skate Club on the 7th floor of the Esplanade shopping mall has been replaced with an art gallery ‘Art in Paradise’.
